Town of Beech Mountain Requirement

All utility customers are required to turn water service off using their own private cutoff valve when the structure will be unoccupied for more than three days.

Frozen Pipes May Break. Thawing may result in leaking water.

If you have not shut off your water service to the interior of your house you may have a significant leak from a burst water line. We have seen many of these over our past 10 years living on Beech Mountain resulting in damage from a few HUNDRED $$ to MANY THOUSANDS of $$$$$$$. A small investment can prevent the significant damage.

Turning the water off at the your street valve is strongly recommended!

However some homes do not have a captive "T" handle. Other homes have there street shutoff not on their property, but on the street below or up the hill from them. And others are just placed in a location that is very difficult and almost unsafe to access.

If you cannot turn your water off at the street valve there are options.

1. Manually turn off your water in your crawl space.

Challenges of Crawl Space Water Shut Off

Accessing the crawl space to shut off your home’s water supply is often inconvenient and physically challenging. This process can require traversing snow or ice and climbing up and down our Beech Mountain hills and navigating tight spaces just to reach the shut-off valve at least twice per year.

2. Electronically turn off your water in your crawl space

This is great for rental properties that may periodically be vacant for more than three days.
